Kumbakonam known as the Temple town is situated in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu in South India. Kumbakonam can be reached easily from different parts of Tamil Nadu by means of bus and train. Kumbakonam, which was the capital of the Chola Kings in the 7th Century, is famous for its Mahamaham festival. This is celebrated once in 12 years in the Mahamaham tank which has a direct view from Hotel Raya's and Hotel Raya's Annexe-1.
Situated amid the two rivers Cauvery and Arasalar Kumbakonam is famous for its brass objects and pure hand-loom silk sarees. Though small it has some of the oldest temples in Tamil Nadu and proves to be a market town for its smaller agricultural villages. A vacation here would certainly perk up some history.
